Capacity Building

Formation of a national civil society organization (CSO) network

and media training on reporting on the courts.

National CSO Network

Formation of a national civil society organization (CSO) network. The Project will work for the establishment of a national network of CSOs for justice system reform, with the specific purpose of strengthening and mobilizing CSO capacities and initiatives in conducting regular oversight of the performance, transparency and accountability of the courts and quasi-judicial bodies, and pursuing much needed reforms in the justice sector. The network will be composed of local/regional formations of CSOs from ten (10) areas throughout the country with representation from the three (3) island groups of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, as well as the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Project includes the conduct of activities that reinforce participation among CSOs, while consolidating efforts, in oversight and reform advocacy, through linkages and collaborative actions between local/regional CSOs and national networks.

Training of Journalists

Media training on reporting on the courts. As reporting on the status and performance of the justice system contributes to transparency and may improve the credibility of justice institutions, the Project shall organize a two-pronged training program that will enable journalists to have a full grasp of the courts and report accurately, comprehensively, and fairly on these institutions. It will also identify obstacles within the media and the courts that hamper timely, contextual and analytical reporting.
